CWRU and AlensiaXR Recognized as 2023 Microsoft Mixed Reality Partner of the Year

HoloAnatomy® software teaches human anatomy using holograms rather than costly cadavers

Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and partner AlensiaXR were named 2023 Microsoft Mixed Reality Partner of the Year, honored for demonstrating excellence in innovation and implementation of Microsoft solutions. A leading light in medical education, CWRU launched AlensiaXR to accelerate product innovation and rapidly scale the potential of this revolutionary learning platform.

“This award is a welcome acknowledgement of the ground-breaking nature of the HoloAnatomy® Software Suite,” said Mark Griswold, professor at the CWRU School of Medicine and faculty director at the university’s Interactive Commons. Griswold and his team of programmers, physicians, 3D artists, and anatomists developed the software to teach human anatomy in a more intuitive, cost-effective way using holographic imagery through the Microsoft HoloLens headset. “We’re confident this immersive learning platform will forever change the way students learn the fundamentals of anatomy.”

HoloAnatomy software is already in use by a rapidly expanding network of more than 20 institutions—including Northwestern and Texas Christian University—that use the platform to attract tech-savvy students, save budgets for more pressing expenditures, and provide a more engaging, effective educational experience.

“This Microsoft award is welcome proof that HoloAnatomy is leading a paradigm shift in education,” said Mark Day, CEO of AlensiaXR, formed to help CWRU extend the learning platform worldwide. Day brings a wealth of experience to the category after leading the global HoloLens business. “By illuminating the human body virtually, universities can reduce the expensive, time-consuming task of obtaining and maintaining cadavers. AlensiaXR is dedicated to sharing this next-generation software with schools and healthcare professionals of all kinds—like nurses, chiropractors, and physical therapists—who need a solid understanding of anatomy to provide effective care.”

The Microsoft Partner of the Year award recognizes partners that have delivered outstanding Microsoft-based applications, services, and devices, with honorees chosen from more than 100 countries. CWRU and partner AlensiaXR were recognized for providing an outstanding Mixed Reality solution in the form of the HoloAnatomy learning platform.
